AVATAR - 3D Face Animation

The AVATAR project is a QREN project leaded by Inogate in which IT is subcontracted. It aims to study and develop mechanisms
of interaction based on animated three-dimensional models. The animation of these models - avatars - has particular relevance
in the visual component of speech.|
In the proposed system synthesis of facial animation is given by a sequence of visemes, obtained from recognizing phones in the audio signal. Special attention was done to automated methods of creating models from photographs. A new method was developed, which involves the application of two algorithms. The first - the global deformation - seeks a polygonal mesh adapted to a photograph by applying Procrustes analysis. The second - local deformation - determines an adapted model from the photo of computing a set of linear transformations of the triangle mesh.
